Florida ESE Language Arts Course Description for Grades 6-8
Major Concepts/Content: The purpose of this course is to provide instruction in language arts concepts and skills to enable students with disabilities to function at their highest levels, participate effectively in the community, and prepare for a career. The content should include, but not be limited to, the following: reading comprehension and vocabulary, listening and speaking skills, writing, language usage, literature, study skills, reference skills, applications in daily activities, and applications in the workplace. This course shall integrate the Sunshine State Standards and Goal 3 Student Performance Standards of the Florida System of School Improvement and Accountability as appropriate to the individual student and to the content and processes of the subject matter.

Behavior Expectations

Grading
Class grades are calculated by points, which can include small group work, in class assignments, participation, reading and writing assignments, tests, and homework. Grades can be viewed on Focus, the school’s online grade book, which allows parents and students to access grades, assignments, and attendance information.
Grading Scale:
100-90 = A
89-80 = B
79-70 = C
69-60 = D
59-0 = F
